Q14 Approximately (to the nearest million) how many seconds are there in a year? P1111
Q15 Given we appear to have the time, what kind of sandwich would you get? P1111

The answers are below.

The Answers
Q1 Edouard Lucas (1842-1891) was the Towers of Hanoi inventor. Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923) was the Eiffel Tower designer and builder. I suspect they at least knew of each other.
Q2 5! = 120
Q3 Euclid (325 B.C.E. - 265 B.C.E approx.) was a Greek mathematician who is best known for geometry, but also as the creator of Euclid's Algorithm.
Q4 26 = 64
Q5 2N × 2M = 2N+M
Q6 Don't need to. They're all black by definition.
Q7 0 × N is 0 for all N
Q8 0 + N is N for all N
Q9 N0 is 1 for all N
Q10 0! is 1
Q11 100 million = 102 × 106 = 108 = 1E8
Q12 36 bits. May Gates should just buy a PDP10 which has a 36 bit word. He sure could afford it.
Q13 2A(16) = 2 × 161 + A(16) = 32 + 10 = 42. What other answer could there be?
Q14 There's approximately 31 million seconds in a year, so the next time one of your parents says they told you something a million times, you can reply: "Over the last year you would have had to tell me that every 31 seconds". Don't blame me for their reaction. You might want to look up hyperbole.
Q15 Pastrami on rye with hot mustard and a kosher pickle on the side. All other answers are wrong.

Please mail any comments or questions to David Tilbrook. Bye for now.
